1. Do I need a license to provide child care in my home?

A license is required unless you are caring for relatives or caring for children from one family. You may provide care to both relatives and children from one family without having to become licensed.

2. Are there different types of family child care licenses?

Yes. There are different types of licenses based on where you are providing care; these may include your own home, a home where you do not live but are providing care at, or in a commercial space. Other licenses are based on the number of staff, the number of children in care, and your education and/or experience.

3. How long does it take for me to get licensed?

Generally it takes between 90 to 120 days to get licensed. There are many factors that will increase the time such as: will you need a fire marshal inspection? how long it will take you to complete the required training? do you need to add a fence or complete modifications to your home? how long will it take you to complete the handbook and written policies?
